Default MAP sensor bad?

i have been getting a code 3 for bout 6 weeks, evrey few days (3-ish) i get a code 3. i know for a fact i got good voltage to the sensor, the grounds are good, and the wireing to / frome ecu is intact and not tampered with. i also put a vacum gauge on it andit was 22 inches. put vac pump on map only and it made it run realy rich.

thats what i know. do i need a new(or junkyard) map? i thought maps didnt go bad or are they like O2; they get tired and lazy?

BTW it's a 91 LX sedan calf. emmision

Hmmm my MAP sensor would randomly come on, mostly in the 2200 to 2700 rpm range. When it did come on I would just turn my CRX off for a second then turn it back on LOL and it wouldn't throw a code for like 3 or 4 weeks. So to answer your question, it looked to me like my MAP sensor was being lazy.

Go to a junkyard and get a map sensor from any 88-95 civic. They all will work the same

if i remember correctly and if you search you can reason the resistance of the map sensor to check if its functional

that or swap maps with your friend and see who gets the code

did and each wire has less than .03 ohms. i'm thinking it's shorting on another sensor and is adding X voltage to the map sensor causing the cel. how can i easly test this w/o having to test each wire?

EDIT: i have had a multi meter hooked up to the map and wheni get the cel the voltage goes to ~4.1 volts

Is your car doing anything out of the ordinary? I took my car to the shop a few days ago, because it had trouble starting, running rich, and idling funny, btw its a 88 crx si w/ b16a... anyways, the mechanic changed out the map sensor, and the ect sensor (not sure why he did that one), and it seems to run a whole lot better.. i wasnt getting any codes though...

no not funny or un-ordinary things. it is ever so slighty rich (14.8-9) and it does idle weard but i thought that was a vacume leak or the EACV.

it says in the helms that should be 3 volts with the ignition on, and 1 volt with the car running at idle.

check the helms for the flowchart on fixing the map. if you find the unit to be faulty, go get a new oem one. or mask the problem with another old one from another car from the junkyard.

this is the third one, second one from junkyard. i pluged my ECU in a friends car and did the flow chart and evreything was fine.

it does do that but whatever trigures the CEL makes the voltage go to 4.1.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by doublethink &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> go get a new oem one.</TD></TR></TABLE>

thats not a option the dealer wants $350 for it i dont have that kinda money.
