Default DIY -- Window Trim and Windshield Wipers

Most of you probably know how to do this and its really simple, but I decided to do a writeup for those of you that haven't done it before.

Tools needed:

14mm socket and ratchet
1 can of flat black duplicolor trim paint
Newspaper
3m Painters tape
600 grit sand paper

Before I did this, my wipers and window trim was peeling and silver was showing through. Here is a before pic

Step 1:

Pop your hood and use your 14mm socket and ratchet to remove the 14mm nut that holds down the windshield wipers. Then pull off the wipers and remove the blade. Find an open, dry, ventilated area to paint the wipers. Using a sheet of the 600 grit sand paper, lightly sand down the surface and then clean off using a towel. Set the wipers down where you are going to paint them and apply your first coat of paint.

Step 2:

While the paint is drying, start getting ready to tape off your car to paint the windo trim. Use 2 sheets thick of newspaper and your 3m painters tape to tape off the surrounding area so paint doesn't get on the glass or car. Make sure to take your time and be precise so you don't have any overspray or leaks onto your paint. Then go ahead and sand down the trim and clean. Then spray your first layer of paint.

Step 3:

Go back to the wiper blades, and if they are dry, flip them over and spray the other side.

Step 4:

Spray another layer on the window trim.

Step 5:

After everything has dried, start removing all the newspaper and painters tape. Get the wipers and put the blades back on. Then you can re-install them onto the car using your 14mm socket and ratchet. Now you're good to go and your trim and wipers are back to black. Here's a pic of the wipers afterwards. I forgot to take a pic of the window trim

Taping it all off probably took more time and work than replacing or removing them to paint.
