I had the same prob in my h22 del sol. My prob was because of the sharp bend the cable (forwards and backwards shifting) had to make right after it ran over the crossmember. I ran through 3 cables in 4 months. First disconnect the cable from the lever on the tranny and make sure the lever still moves. If not, you have bigger problems. If the cable won't move, it'll have to be replaced. I ended up using one of the other cables (side to side motion cable) and modifying it to fit. You need to chop a piece out of the part that connects to your shifter since the distance from where the cable connects to the shifter plate and where it connect to the shifter is longer. Just get it welded back together after taking out 2 inches or so. Then I took out the busing on the bad cable where it connects to the tranny, cut it down to fit in the other cable's end and jb welded it in (poor man's fix). Been driving for 9 months plus this way, japsticking the hell out of it with no probs. That or get a custom cable made ($$). Hope that helps.
