Default It's on now ... Actually gonna mod my 01 Spa and race in Comp4

I've been staring at my S2000 in the driveway all winter and watched both my 4yr old twins go in it to play drive the car. Well anyway, the weather is getting better and the track is opening. I just sent my 1010 AEM EMS to AEM to get converted to 1012. When that comes back I'll have the Toda header on it as well.

Currently I have the Ultimate Racing dual exhaust, T1R testpipe and an O2 simulator and SFC VTEC controller, never tuned it but did get an opportunity to dyno it at the last Oct 04 NHRA dyno challenge and won with a 205whp peak for 4cyl all motor.

I've seen guys pushing stock motors on the dyno 248c to 220whp like nothing with simple boltons and engine management ... I'm now curious to know how this car will perform. I'm hoping to come close to the 230whp range.

I do remember last year the clutch was smelly after a buddy raced it, so I'm anticipating needing a new clutch ... have you guys had any luck with just upgrading a disc and use the stock pressure plate and maybe upgrade with lighter flywheel ? how has performance been ?

I'm also looking to see how a cheap knockoff spoon or j's racing snorkel would perform ... anyone have leads to what types are out there ?

Greg

The MUZ intake works with the stock airbox and is similar to the Spoon snorkle, but fiberglass rather than carbon fiber. I haven't seen a lot of n/a parts and dyno plots, but I'm interested.

Greg,

I'm sure that thing will be a monster when youre done with it. As far as the clutch I might have an 8lbs flywheel available soon with 300 miles on it. It's from Fidanza I believe. I will let you know. I have seen some folks gain equal hp with modifying the stock intake system by removing the baffle as with the snorkel setups...

Regards,
Arnold

I'll do some digging to see what I could find, did similar wiht my FROG, just got a fake J's as an intake and works great. I dont care for the good looking CF stuff LOL ... power and speed

thanks arnold, yeah that'll be cool ... I still hav eto remove the baffle in the stock box (thats what Spoon says to do when using their intake anyway)... I think the snorkel helps somewhat from talking to couple people but who knows.

yup, the spoon filter when dropping it in ... its in japanese but thats what it recommends for better performance.

I absolutely do not recomend just upgraded the disk and not the pressure plate. I've taken a manual trans class at a local college and thats one of the first things they say when they are talking about picking a clutch for the customer.

Reason being, the disc will wear the pp surface just as it will wear the flywheel. However, you really cant get the pp resufaced, and even if you could, you dont have a lot of room to play with. They need they metal.

good advice ... I'm a very cheap individual I must admit, but its a good point, just not used to spending that much for a clutch and its not even a twin disc ... even for my racecar we dont spend that much.

Now I know why I haven;t modded this S2K as much ... I'm sure I'll have fun with the car with an EMS and Toda header with test pipe and dual exhaust ... she looks great lowered with the Emotion Rs in gunmetal too ... found a set of C west side skirts already painted SPA yellow ... wish I could find a 2004 rear wing for cheap ... then there's the front lip which are impossible to find for cheap.

hahaha...yes sir..we have all found out the hard way that the s2k is cheap to mod... every good part is mad expensive...makes me wish i still have my integra gsr...n e way...no intake is really gonna give huge gains...aem shows some gains..but it too has it down sides..most other jdm intakes..ie. mugen, js, spoon are more about throttle response IMO...if u use the mugen to its full advantage..get the alex air duct to get the ram air affect into the chamber

also if you are looking for 230rwhp..i would suggest getting the j's header along with amuse r1000 or j's 70mm RR Ti exhaust..loud..but it makes the power...that along with the aem ems should allow you to hit your goal easily

the snorkle isn't dyno-able, at least for real world situations. I'll say this, on the road course, it does pick up a few mph's on long straights, but if you aren't at speed, you won't see the results. I'm unsure what it would do for you, being that only a fraction of the time would be spent utilizing an over 60mph snorkle. good luck in whichever route you choose.

yeah i think the snorkel will help, and yes I wouldn;t test it on the dyno cause it would not show any gains. as a matter of fact the only dyno this s2000 has seen was at the nhra dyno challenge. I'll tune the car with wideband in the street .. unless i upgrade with toda cams and adj gears then i would hit the dyno.

update: got my AEM EMS back and plugged it in and started it up ... idles great, revs up fine, justtr didnt get a chance to drive it. I'll put a Techedge wideband in it for now. Trying tot get Toda header in there for this weekend's Survival Series event as well ... on Sunday, but saw forcast for rain

Anyway, will let you people know the dilly-0

BTW, hate the short *** stock S2000 ecu harness, hard to fit the EMS in there LOL.

I know Jacque used to make a harness adapter to extend, now I know why.

didnt dyno yet with aem ems, toda header and testpipe/exhaust yet ... last dyno with an SFC vtec controller, testpipe, exhaust and stock ECU with 205whp.

just finished installed the aem and tuned it on the road with a wideband, will run at track and dyno lateron.
