Default Which Replacement Radiator?

My radiator has cracks in the plastic upper tank. It loses almost half the coolant in a few weeks.

I don't want to spend more than $200 including the shipping costs.
What radiator should I get and from where?

My local sources can't get it any cheaper than $250+tax.

I see on absoluteradiator.com they have an "all metal" brass/copper direct replacement for $177.23 shipped.

I was worried that the brass and copper might react with the aluminum and other materials of the engine and
cause some accelerated corrosion or corrosion products.

What have you guys bought? Any other sources? Cheaper ? Better?

Thanks in advance for the help. I need to replace this radiator before Feb 7th...gotta road trip.

I got an all metal radiator when mine cracked. it was $150 locally. I'd say do it, I've had mine for a year and haven't had any leaks or nothing.

I believe the stock ITR radiator is all AL. You can try getting one as a replacement. I have heard people say they bolt right in with little to no adjustment. I would check it out though.

Default Civic radiator?

Isn't that Civic radiator going to be too small?
I don't want to mess with funky mounting.

I think the ITR radiators are selling for over $200- not within the budget.

I just wanted to let everyone know that the Type-R radiator IS NOT all aluminum. The core is aluminum, but the top and bottom caps are plastic, so it can also have the same leaking problems. The only difference the Type-R radiator has is it is slightly lighter in weight (this was confirmed by Mike K. who posts on the Type-R forum and works at an Acura parts department).

I was in the exact same situation as you about 4 month ago. Yes, it would have been nice to buy a nice all-aluminum race radiator like the Fluidyn or Koyo, but in the end I just could not justify the cost ($315+ for the radiator and $80 for the thin depth radiator fans, so approx. $400+). Plus, my stock radiator was having no problems cooling my car (even when driving on the track for 30-minutes in 85-90 degree weather).

In the end, I finally decide to buy an aftermarket OEM Equivalent Replacement Radiator (copper & brass) for http://www.radiators.com for $158 shipped. I placed my order in the morning and I received the radiator the next day (they have several warehouses across the country). The radiator fits just like the stock radiator and it has a lifetime warranty. I haven't noticed any difference compared to stock since I installed it. HTH

i picked an OEM replacement for $135 including tax and installed it in like 20 minutes after the car cooled down. might want to consider replacing your upper and lower radiator hoses while you are at it!

me and my friend used an EF civic radiator for his hybrid
he has an H22. it stays cool

using that smaller radiator along with thermostat and hipressure cap
will max out your cooling system. If you have a new radiator i think its more
than enough. Maybe a new water pump along with it.

if your thinking about turbo or anything in the future that requires room
carefully choose one.

I'm having a problem with my radiator too... I keep smelling coolant and after 1 drive, my coolant bottle empties out. Anyone know what's wrong with it?

You can also get all-metal (copper and brass) radiators from Performance Radiator. They have retail stores all around the country. I found one locally, and they even charged less than the website indicates -- only ~$140.

u might have a leak somewhere, where u park check if theres any coolant around.
if not u might have to get a leakdown test to see if the internals have leaks.

how many miles is your car?
how is the temperature doing?

another problem might be a blown head gasket...which will destroy you almost
everything...cylinders ect....try doing a search about head gasket or coolant.

This is the same thing that happened to me. The crack in the radiator was so thin and long that the coolant would literally evaporate on the hot radiator. So it wasn't really evident at first where the radiator was leaking. But as time went on the radiator started to show signs of leaking. My crack on the radiator was on the front side underneath a rubber/foam gasket which is attached to the plastic tank. I wasn't 100% sure where the radiator was leaking until I removed it from the car and that is when I found the thin long crack.

check to see if its cracked by inspecting it.
or drain it and run a hose through it.

gsr cooling systems are top notch, HONDA cooling systems are
very good.

The upper radiator cap is plastic. With age and heat the plastic weakens and finally cracks. It seems like in the last 6 months there has been a threads on this topic.
