theres a screen on the solenoid ... make sure its not all gunked up .... my coupe just did the same thing ... but on boost so I lost like 80-90 whp
what motor? mods??
let car warm up to operational temp
check oil level
make sure there is no oil leak
use premium gasoline
make sure there is no oil pan dent
and if you are running on stock exhaust you may not hear VTEC at all

aint got enough oil pressure....add another quart or two... or three. or it could be bad wiring I did a swap and had a bad solonoid so i had to hard wire vtec . so i had a switch hanging out of the dash radio hole for a couple of days so i could get to the track and run the **** out of it

you cant really hear the cam changeover on those single cam engines. It just not aggressive as the B series. But you can tell by the slightly louder sound from the intake though.
On my old single cam Z6, I hardly hear the vtec engaging but it pulls so it must of been activated smoothly.

My vtec cross over is as smooth as hell. I can't tell that its on except for the fact it keeps pulling past 5,500 very smooth. I figure that if it wasn't working ater that rpm level it would fall on its face.
I guess it gets a little louder too, but not as noticeable as in a DOHC 2.2 motor.

disconnect ur batter for a couple seconds to reset everything if u just re hooked it. Make sure ur car is warmed up and oil is to the correct level. Also if its just a d16z6 u probalby wont be able to hear it that well if at all. I have a port and polished head with 3 angle valve job and can only hear mine a little bit with full exhaust and intake. What i did was make a small vtec light by goin to radio shack and pickin up a little led light that the sell. I then hooked up the red wire of the light to pin a4 out of the ecu and the black wire to a good ground. i then mounted the light in an easily seen place on the dash. Now when vtec "cracks" the light lights up to show that vtec is properly working. It is good if you are goin the boosted way so you know for sure that it is working. Hope this helps.
