ITR Distributor life?
I'm under the impression that my distributor may be on the way out, due to the presence of a brownish dust inside the cap.
Supposeadly, it will start to squeal (like a stuck pig ? hehe) when it really starts to go, but since this is my daily driver I'd like to get some opinions ahead of time and do it in the form of "preventative maintenance" ahead of time (pre expo).
Steve (sgT) and I have already exchanged a few I'ms on this (and a ralated) subject, but I'm posting this to get some more input, and as a heads-up for the rest of us.
Mike K -- looks like I'll be calling eventually to get a distributor sub-assembly. Ed

Ed, as you probably already know, I have had an issue with my car cutting off after it warms up(no spark) at only 8500 miles. I tested the coil and it is out of spec. so, I am replacing it as soon as I get the new one. Hopefully this will fix my problem.. If not, the Ignition Module(Ignitor) will be the next replacement. However, I do want to let you know that at only 8500 miles, I also have the brownish/reddish dust under the cap.
I am hoping the dust is the normal residue left from the actual spark/rubbing of the rotor on the contacts.. hopefully nothing to worry about.

Robert, I read of your woes when you originally posted...glad you're coming to some type of analysis/solution of the situation.
I imagine the dark brownish (almost burnt looking) dust is being worn away from some bushing, and will eventually allow the shaft/rotor button to move around. Steve said he's already replaced his distributor, and when it went it was really loud and the car wouldn't rev over 7K (which sounds like something different from your current problem).
Rob -- most of know what kind of miles those 8.5 K were!

The dust is not from the bushings/bearings......first tell tell sign will be the hampster type squeaking under the hood....them about 500/1000 miles later she'll lock up.
Ed you can order just the housing (bearings and housing) from honda and transplant your electrics into her.
