BLUE SMOKE JDM B18C
I have noticed whenever I'm at WOT, after VTEC engages blue smoke comes out the tailpipe. It doesnt blow any blue smoke while driving under normal conditions. any ideas, I know possbily rings, valve seals and there is not too much oil in it. Compression test 205-205-204-205. Leakdown test at 100psi. 12,13,13,14 (blowby)???? any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I use mobile 1 5w-30, like I always have shouldnt have to use a thicker oil. I hoping its the valve seal and not the rings.

I dont agree thats it normal all of my previous cars and my friends cars dont smoke when it hits vtec...... I know it will use a little bit of oil but "smoking like a frieght trian" ISNT normal

Mobil 1 5w-30 is actually a very thin 30wt oil... I used to burn M1. I smoke in VTEC, but not that much.

My JDM GSR motor did almost the same thing. Smoked after VTEC and burned about a quart of oil a week when daily driven. I tore the motor apart, and found that the small holes in the pistons where completely clogged up which affected blow-by and caused it to burn oil.
Sounds like you might have the same problem. Do you have any idea how low the motor was sitting for?

i have a jdm gsr motor and it would smoke too when i hit vtec, but under normal driving conditions, no smoke.
don't know what it could be. i found a little bit of metal shavings in my oil, so i'm getting new bearings put in along with some b16 pistons with new rings etc....
maybe the smoke will stop when i get the motor back in with the new parts.

i have a jdm type r b18c and i dont smoke under normal driving conditions and when im at wot in vtec doesnt smoke but i do burn oil, dont kno why but most ppl who have jdm gsr and type r burn oil and some smoke good luck

People, please do not assume that because an engine is "JDM" its going to burn oil. You think the JDM engines have some funky building process that is so different from the US engines? You do realize the US engines are even built in Japan as well, no?
Alright. Now. Anyone who is truely serious about finding out the srouce of this problem would have checked with Honda for service bulletins on this issue. Although most dealers may not reveal this, there was one released regarding DOHC Vtec engines using oil under "heavy" high rpm driving. It did it in my 99 Si, did it in my B17 that I rebuilt and also does it in my B18C1 that I also rebuilt. Thats just the name of the game when it comes to high rpm engines. They are going to use some oil due to crankcase pressures generated by 8,000rpms+. No, I am not saying 3 quarts a day is acceptable... but a small amount of oil loss is expected.
I was going to say it sounds like your PCV is clogged and causing the problem, but you already found that out. Mobil 1 5w-30 is also a pretty darn thin oil. I had a noticeable increase in oil consumption when I ran Mobil 1 in my engines as well. If you want my opinion, mobil 1 is expensive and overkill. There are better oils out there that will do the same and even put some money back in the ole pocket.

German Castrol 0w-30 (Says Made in Germany on back of bottle), and M1 Euro 0w-40 are both excellent oils. Agreed with the above poster, 30wt M1 shears down too much.
