Internal Questions
I have a greddy turbo kit for my 98' GS-R. I want to build some internals first before i put in the turbo kit. Im going to build the bottom end first. What pistons and rods would you guys recommend? Right now im looking at Eagle rods,Wiseco pistons, Str block guard, and Arp Studs. Are these good choices? Thanks.
I have eagle rods in my engine, blew my motor and they were fine...
I currently have 84mm endyn slugs in the block, but they blew the seal of the rings so im switching out to 84.5mm CPs during this current rebuild...
If my rods would have been shot I would have got some Manley or Pauter rods...

your first mistake was a "GREDDY TURBO KIT"......anyway, crower rods are better if your going all out.....and CTR pistons....Sleeve it if your really going all out..ARP head bolts for sure...have fun..

why is the greddy kit bad. i mean i just ordered it so i can cancel it. i was looking into the drag and revhard kit. Which do you recommend? Also after buying this turbo kit i only have around 1200$ to buy internals Im saving more $$$ to do the install. So what would you buy with 1200$?
drag.........but search around and you will see greddy doesn't perform like a pieced together turbo or a drag3 turbokit....you can install it yourself its really not that hard....get a tune though...GL

I made 295 WHP, 222 ft-lb torque on my stock motor ITR with the Greddy kit, and will probably be doing 350+ once my JE pistons and eagle rods are done. Others have made 350-400 WHP with GReddy.
It spools quick, has a nice wide powerband, I like it a lot. Internal wastegate sucks so I had a Tial 38mm welded onto the manifold. Other than that it's rock solid. 18G is a nice turbo.

EDIT:
If you're building the motor and looking for big power, you could get a turbo that would make more power than the GReddy. The manifold isn't great and the internal wastegate is small, and the downpipe that comes with the kit is small. If you're happy with 300 WHP, get it.
p.s. I wouldn't **** around with a block guard. It doesn't let the cylinder walls cool as well (insulates the top bit from the coolant and blocks the flow a bit too). I'm keeping the stock sleeves, you might want to sleeve your motor if you're going to go higher than 350-400 WHP.
Edit #2: Eagle rods are awesome, same with Wiesco pistons. Really, the pistons are all just about the same, but Wiesco are the lightest and very good quality.

I would put together my own kit with a fabbed manifold. Kits are for people that don't have the time to do the research. You could put together your own kit for about the same price and have a lot better comps.
