Default Running on 20w/50 oil in a Teg......Whats the worst???

For 120 miles, I was running 20w50 motor oil in my engine. Only reason why I even dumped this motor oil in was to have fresh oil in the motor before sea foaming it.

During the 2 or 3 days I had the oil in the car, It ran slightly better than normal in the low and mid ranges, but maybe a bit more sluggish on the top end.

All i'm concerned with is: Is there anything I could've possibly screwed up, in that time period, due to running such a thick weighted oil?

It should be ok. I thought I was spinning a bearing and ran that with lucas stab. and it ran fine. I even did an engine flush and switched back to 5w30...that was over 10k miles ago...Dont worry

When you're at the brink of hitting 290,000 miles, you'll begin worry about some of the stupidest/smallest things......all the way down to worrying if the bolts on the car should be replaced due to age...

Thanks for the reply!

I love people who think that the motor is running better in the low end and crap from a different viscosity of oil. You crack me up.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it.

the disadvantage you have running thick oil ..is that on startup its slow to reach the head......and changing the oil can make the car run alot better....friction does slightly rob power if the oilk is very dirty...........

I wouldn't worry, danny is right that the disadvantage is the cold start up when the oil is thick. After start up the oil becomes much thinner and it circulates the motor like normal.

BTW that is a ton of miles, congrats

I didn't mean to give off the impression that my car was running like i had gained 7 HP or anything. When I was driving around, it just felt a bit better.

Think about it...I have damn near 290,000 miles on the original motor...I highly doubt i'm running my oil pressure to spec. WOuldn't a higher viscosity oil raise the oil pressure in my motor, therefore running slightly better than it did before?

Thats awesome!!! Have you had any major problems with it or has it been mainly a perfect model of Honda reliability and craftmans ship?

I had a 92 Civic VX that had 350K miles on it and finaly broke, the tranny started poping out of gear. I swaped in a b16 and sold it to a buddy and he's been driving it for 2 years without a problem at all.

Only problems are a tired transmission and possibly the headgasket...Car would have never aquired an overheating issue if a trusted friend of mine had changed the water pump like he said he did.
