cant hear vtec any longer
I been driving my 97 gsr for over a year. Vtec has never let me down untill yesterday when i raced my friends DA. And for no particular reason, Vtec never kicked in. Before i can always hear the louder winning sound of the engine around 5k-6k, but this time it never came. Car is pretty much stock, only mod is an AEM cai. Should i be worried??? And how do i get that awesome sound back?
get your valves tuned lately, check vtec selenoid, or it could be as simple as changing your oil.
hi reving engins burn some oil, raceing a lot lately?

i got my car tuned 20K milles ago, has that been long enough? My oil is fine, i rarely race. Also if i were to check the vtec celenoid, what am i checking for exactly?

And at 5-6k thats not VTEC thats your secondaries opening.
VTEC is at 4400 if I'm not mistaken. If you're not hearing that sound at 5-6K like you normally do then it might be possible that your secondaries are stuck open. I've read several posts about this. I'm not sure but just a suggestion. Somebody with more info feel free to help me out on this. Good luck with the diagnosis...hope you get it fixed.

unplug sensors, remove the 10mm boltstake the soleniod off, disassemble (carefully), and there is a screen inside the soleniod, check and see if it dirty if so clean it w/ degreaser...water anything really, there might be a better cleaning chemical im not sure, but i used degreaser
