HELP:Need help isolating the soft clicking or knocking comming from tranny area after tranny swap.
Well, I decided to swap trannies and clutch/flywheel combos on my cars.
FYI before the swap. Daily driver; 91 integra had a YS1 w/ Type R LSD sounded like it needed a new throw-out bearing to me.
The car with the problem: 88 crx started off with a B16A S1 tranny.
I installed the S1 tranny & clutch combo in the 'Teg with a LS 5th gear (for my daily commute) and all has been fine for the last 3 months.
So I installed the YS1 in the crx with a new throw-out bearing.
BTW Both clutch/flywheel combos are fairly new.
So on to the problem; when I drive the crx I can hear a soft knocking or clicking comming from what sounds like the tranny area(firewall side). It makes the clicking with the tranny in gear at low speeds. I can't really tell if it does at high revs/speeds.
I notice when I push the clutch pedal in while cruising around in gear the sound goes away. At idle or reving in neutral I don't hear it either.
I raised the car and set it on jack stands, I had my buddy sit in the car and run it through all gears and rev it at 3-4k revs while I was under the car listening and looking for the source, but it didn't make the clicking/ knocking sound. Only made it with weight on the wheels (on the ground).
I pulled the hood off and and sat in the engine bay with my friend driving around a empty parking lot to see if I could pin-point the source of the sound. It sounds like its coming from tranny/diff/axle area. Anyway I decided to start with the passenger side axle, since autozone has lifetime warranty. So I put in a new one, but these axles had very low miles. When I picked up the axle I noticed the older axle had some play in the bearings when I rotated the shaft that goes into the tranny back n forth. The new one had no play...so I was like . hell yea, this is the problem.
Well, that wasn't the problem . It still makes that sound. Has anyone had a simialr problem? or have any input?
I'm thrown totaly off cuz the ys1 didnt make that sound in the 'teg.
I am really dreading dropping the tranny again to open it up to replace the shaft bearings...
HELP....
