Tranny Noises Maybe?????
okay so when im driving the car is quiet and then when i let off the gas or downshift something makes a whinning sound....
sounds like its coming from the transmission...but idk
some have told me it might be the flywheel
but i want to be sure what to do...
should i just replace the whole tranny, since i drive a civic

Not sure what you are saying, but my old tranny make whinning noises. I would drive like 10 mph in first and then push the clutch in and it would make a really loud whinning noise. But then, my tranny has blown 3rd gear synchro, probably a broken shift fork since it doesnt like to go be pushed to the right for 5th and reverse, etc.

input shaft bearing or throw out bearing...hope for the throwout bearing it's the easiest to replace...the outer case input shaft bearing is $60 from honda and the inner case bearing is $40 from honda, only problem is you gotta know how to rebuild trannies to do it. good luck anyway though let us know what you find out

That rules out the release and pilot bearings then. If the release bearing was bad, it would make noise with the clutch disengaged (pedal in).
Sounds like a bad input shaft bearing. Common problem. Can you hear it in neutral with the clutch out?
