Default Oil temp gauge

I have an autometer oil temp gauge. Do I have to drill and weld a bung to the oil pan, or it possible to hook it into the engine block somewhere. I prefer the latter if possible. Anyone know how?

Thanks!

you can put it in a number of different places, but the pan is best.

one thing people have doneis to put the sender in the back of the head
by the distributor, where one would normally tap an oil feed line for ls/vtec

It's a mechanical gauge, doesn't have a sending unit. Will it still fit in this location your talking about?

Braze a bung onto the pan near the drain plug.

Is a mechanical gauge better, or an electrical gauge? What are the differences?
