The feeling isn't like a turbo but there is a definate noticable pull on the car. I also love the sound when you hit VTEC with i/h/e, I didn't notice it that much before my mods.

VTEC isn't really a big pull, but when you hit the secondaries at 5800 it's a definite surge...but yeah, it's no turbo...

the power curve of a GSR is quite linear, so you won't really feel a "surge". However the needle keeps pulling hard right up until 7600 rpms. If you want to feel a non-turbo surge, ride in the celica gts.

you wont really feel a kick. like someone said earlier the secondary runners opening up causes a bigger kick than vtec, also after vtec engages it will pull harder all the way to redline. below vtec =

True, which is why you don't feel the VTEC change in a GSR. It's just a little more pronounced when the secondaries open

Not having a "surge" is a good thing, especially when you're at the track.

Whenever i see a celica GTS dyno chart, i see a huge surge when vvtl-i kicks in. I don't see as much of a surge on an ITR chart. But then again, each car varies. I have just heard that GTS vvtl-i is very noticeable because the car makes crappy power before it, which is why it is criticle you land on that second cam for your next shift.

I've driven a GTS, it is quick in a straight, but all it's power is at peak. I rather have a useable mid range.

I rather have a useable midrange. If you want a surge (i don't know why though), get a v-afc, and raise the switch over to 6000 rpms with stock cams. You'd lose a chunk of midrange.

when there is no surge that's good right? that means the transition point from low to high is well adjusted.
