Default Broken Diff Housing question 2001 ITR Tranny

I just picked up an 01 R tranny. I looked it over quickly when I grabbed it off the guy just to make sure it was what he said it was, but after a closer look later on I noticed that the diff assembly housing is chipped at the end on both sides. It's hard to explain, so I've attaced some pictures of my tranny, and a picture of someone else's diff in which I've marked the piece that is broken off. My question is, should I be tracking this guy down to get my money back, and is it going to cause problems if I install the tranny as is? I think the axles should still seal, but is there anythign else to be concerned about? If it needs to be fixed, am I looking at a lot of money? I'm not running a high HP motor either, just a stock 97 JDM R. The car is a daily driver, occasional Solo days. Thanks!

Looks like the diff is going to have to be replaced.

if youre gonna replace the diff, get the obx diff for like 300 bucks. Dont chance putting a broken diff in the tranny.

Looks like it might have broke when the seal got replaced. Have you found the piece that broke off? I would make sure it wasn't laying around in the case.

Variety is nice.

Let me add that the OBX diff is not highly regarded in the RR/AX forum.
