Wierd Electrical problem 5Th Gen Prelude
I'm a noob here but you guys seem to have answers for everything, so here goes:
I've got a 1997 BB6 Base Prelude. When I turn on the headlights only the right side low beam comes on.
When I flip to high beams everything goes very dim and all four H1 bulbs light up but very VERY dim.
All four bulbs are in working condition so I know it's not just a bulb.
I've checked all the grounds and removed, cleaned and tightened them, but still am having the problem.
Any Ideas??

sounds like a problem you may not be able to fix yourself. sometimes in those situations its just smarter to take it to the honda dealership and have them look at it. it's obviously an electrical problem, so they should be able to figure it out somewhat quickly. just check and make sure that everything you can see is in good shape, and if you can't find anything wrong i'd take it to honda. good luck.
You don't think by chance it has to do with a relay or anything like that do you? I would have thought those would go out altogether instead of "shorting" or slowing dying??
yea, i think you're right on that. i don't have a ton of experience with electrical systems, but i think that if it was a relay that the lights just wouldn't work at all. have you done any modifications to any part of the stock electrical system?
No modifications at all to the electrical system.
Pretty much stock other than an eBay short-ram intake wraped in black foam tape to keep it quiet.
It bugs the hell out of me cause I do most of my own work and can pretty much take care of anything "Except" wierd electrical bugs.

IF by some sad fact you are not the original owner and the front end has taken a hit or the car has ever been seriously wet-this can be the result. Relays can and do fail. The result is either stuck on or off. On rare ocassions they have been known to have corrosion on the contacts which cause the lamps to be dimmer than they should be. One other possibility is that someone before you (assumption of mine) put high wattage bulbs in and damaged the sockets. Remember to never use bulbs that are higher than 55 watts.
I'll agree that a Honda dealer may be your better choice. The Helm is very complete, but by the time you go thru all of th wiring a tech may have repaired what is wrong.
Good luck.

Yeah, I've tried everything I can think of. I even bought new sockets from Honda, replaced the bulbs etc. still no luck.
The fenders and hood are all original or at least it looks like it since they have the VIN stickers on them and doesn't look like any paint work or wreckage.
Enlighten me on the "Helm". Never heard of it.
