Default Tech 43 kit questions?

Ok here are some ?'s that i have been wondering about

I use the Main caps in the B16 correct?

what bearings would i use? and what should the clearance be on the crank? do i use the green plastiguage?

I want to run a girdle with this system. can i use the stock B16 windage tray, pan and pick up? if not what do i need?

If i run the girdle what Stud kit would i use? the GSR or B16?

Also if i was running the 82 mm kit with the block guard. would 9k be safe to hit. I did over 80 passes last season plus a few show ups at a light

thanks thats all the questions i have.

Yes.

You use OEM GSR bearings and clearance them as such.

These I don't know, but Steve is usually on and off often enough to handle most questions. Shoot him a PM or give him a call.

you will need a gsr windage tray, pan and pick up, though i am unsure on the studs

oh, and ITR stuff works too.

yes. you always use the original main caps on any engine, regardless of stroke.

You have two choices.

1. oem (the only ones I use)
2. a aftermarket "standard" bearing set, ie: clevite, acl, king etc.

btw, all b series bearings are the same, with the exception of b18c rod bearings which can be easily fit into non b18c rods.

I only use oem bearings because I truly "blueprint" my engines and I adjust my bearings to achieve the vertical oil clearance I want. Alot of people use standard "one size" bearings, and for the most part, have no problems, but remember, they are pretty much stuck with one clearance unless you have access to crank journal grinding.

I don't use plastiguage, I use dial bore guages and micrometers. Plastiguage is designed for basic "rebuilding". in my opinion, its only good for making sure your clearances aren't too tight, and even at that, its a weak "eyeballed" estimate.

basically, I'm really **** and like to put my parts exactly where I want them, and I try to go for every last bit of power and reliability.

any time you put a "girdle" on a non girdled b series engine, you will be required to use b18c windage tray, the 6 girdle bolts, oil pickup, and oil pan.

but for the record, I don't believe that non girdled b motors need girdles. if you're running hot rod boosting 50 lbs making 1000 hp, I guess it can't hurt to use one, beyond that, save your money. if anyone disagree's....i'd like to see some failures due to a lack of a girdle. like my boy chuck d said: "don't believe the hype!"

the (6) fastners for the girdle need to be b18c length. stock, used bolts are fine. studs are not needed. the outer main caps use the original fastners.

Yes. I don't believe a sleeve cracking would be an issue, I would be more concerned with a rod failure at that rpm, although have lots of engines with 89mm cranks running 9k + with no problems, daily driver. I would reccomend forged rods for the added strength at that rpm.

I'm not a fan of block guards. I don't believe they add much strength. And most cylinders crack under detonation or rod/piston failure, not rpm.

I mean, how much rigidity can they add if you install them by lightly tapping them in?

WORD!

quickly goes into b-boy stance.
