I've got a buddy whose 95 Civic EX's Vtech isn't engaging. The car only has a short ram intake on it and isn't driven too hard. It does how ever have quite a few miles on it, nearing the 200K mark. What could be possible reasons for this and how about some solutions. Thanks, PDX
ok first off...its vtec not vtech and send off...its very difficult to tell the crossover on a single cam motor. even with intake and exhaust. besides that..check ur oil..vtec sol. and make sure ur CEL isnt on.
There are three conditions that must be met to enagage v-tec.
1) Oil level -you must have @least 1.75 quarts of oil
2) Coolant temp has to be around 160 degrees- beleive this is the coolest
3) You must be going faster than 26 mph

I can most definitely hear my friend's D16Y8 x-over with intake and exhaust.

since it seems like the car has high milage you can remove the solenoid from head and replace the gasket.the gasket has a fine screen in it,and may be clogged.try an engine oil flush while you are at it.good luck

make sure the wires connected to the solenoid arent broken or ripped out..happened to me once, had to solder it back in and black tape it on..works great ever since
i think this is exactly your problem clean screen, put it back on then try it but with single cam you cant really hear it unless you got a chip ecu.
