rattle at 3K RPM?
I am getting this rattle noise around 3KRPM and was wondering what could be the problem. My headshield was removed when I installed a short shifter but what else could be making this noise? Could it be the shield on the headers? Cat going bad? etc? Any input
its probably one of the heatshields underneath....either the one on the header, or the one on the cat...check them all. shouldnt take all of a few moments....unless its the one right above the cat in which case be prepared to remove the cat
i get a scraping at about 3800-4200 from the dash sometimes, at 2500 or so i get a hatch rattle sometimes, and my doorcovers rattle and my glove box opener handle rattles. all different times, sometimes all at once. VERY annoying and worrysome at first, but i havent had any performance issues. just part of most hondas, expecially R's. although, im no tech, i could be wrong.

its coming mainly from right by the headers. I am going to try to take off the shield tommorow and see if it helps. When I rev it it doesnt seem to come from the cat although when I am inside the car it sure seems to be coming from there. When I am in front of the car it definetely sounds like something is clanging in the front. Possibly the shield for the headers and the exhaust is stock.

Type R's have heat shields? When I welded on my exhaust last summer I didn't see any heat shields....
Though on past GSR's that was a known problem I'd run into so I ended up taking them all off. The heat shields would always seem to crack near the nut holding them on then it would make raddling at a specific RPM.

hey, that's my car! I assumed that it was all part of driving an R.

I am like 99% positive that either its the metal thing above the cat... not heatsheild though. Or more likely your cat is bad and has fallen apart inside. I got the same rattle at the same rpm's like 3 months ago when mine went up. Good luck.
Aftermarket cats are pretty cheap around $140. OEM is around $900
