CEL flashes on/off. help?
For the past 2 days my CEL has been flashing on and off while driving. Sometimes it just decides to stay on. If I turn the car on/off everything just pretty much goes back to normal. Although don't I notice anything wrong at first it's been doing this and it's starting to irritate me.
Here are some symptoms when the CEL decides to stop flashing and stays on:
- Motor idles at normal rpms but it seems to be louder, does't sound like normal idling. There are some "clicking" sounds from the driver's that doesn't seem to happen when the car is idling normally.
- When I release my foot from the gas pedal my butt dyno feels that there is a larger jolt than usual.
I'm using a JDM B18C and JDM ECU. Would an OBD II reader be able to tell what's wrong? I've also noticed that some wires might be missing from the socket that connects to the ODB II reader...am I screwed?

100% Sure thats your knock sensor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Same thing happened to my car. My problem was that the sensor was plugged in right and all i had to do was plug it back in. But knock sensor for sure.
Sorry, I'm a newb at anything electrical...
Where's the knock sensor, anyone have a picture of where it is?
Edit: Will any B-series VTEC knock sensor work?

the knock sensor is above the oil filter on the back of the block. But I'm not convinced its the knock sensor. When the CEL flashes it could also be the ECU detecting a misfire. My CEL flashes occasionally at idle and its due to misfiring.

Well, 3 of you guys think it's the knock sensor. You guys sure of it cause I don't wanna end up replacing something that doesn't have a problem...
Not saying you're wrong or anything but I just want to be sure
thanks!

Problem is...the former owner of the car did some crappy wiring...so the socket that connects to the OBDII reader won't work. I'm horrific at wiring personally and I suck at electronics. Anyone have a pin-out of the wiring from the ODBII reader socket to the ECU or whatnot?
I'm tired of having shops quote me $1000 just to get that wiring fixed so that I can find out what the hell is wrong with my car.

Wow if you have wiring issues then i'm going to bet its a misfire due to the wiring. I had the exact same problem until I rewired everything that the Acura dealership had done on my car. First figure out what ECU your using, if its an OBD2 ecu then you could scan it. Why did the person touch the wiring going to the obd2 scan port?
Also do you ever get a solid CEL? If so just do the paperclip trick and read the code and let us know what your getting.

shouldn't the ECU store the code, even if the light is off?
