is it ok for a long block sitting without oil

Default is it ok for a long block sitting without oil

hey guys, i have a LS long block sitting in my storage and was thinking of working on it...but its been cold lately and i was wondering would it affect the internals if i drained all the oil out? will the gaskets dry rot by any chance? please let me know...i would like to know if its safe having a long block sit without oil in it

it will be fine, seeing that gravity will pull all of the oil into the pan anyways.

yeah, every once in a while it doesnt hurt to squirt some oil into the cylinders and crank it over manually just to get some movement

yeah i use Marvel Mystery Oil in mine. That stuff works wonders and will really lube it up well. If you go to put the block back into your car what i suggest doing is pulling the spark plugs and puttin about two cap fulls of the mystery oil into each of them. Then turn the car on. This helps to lube it and causes the rings not to wear out real quick.
