I have a 94 vtec sol,yesterday I had my car turned on from sitting all day.I started it and the air condition was on full blast frmo the night before,I then went back inside for almost an hr and left the car and air on.Anyways,when I went to drive away,I noticed that the car was steaming hella and my temp gauge was really up!So I then put in water and went to Portland,no worries and on the way home it started steaming again and the gauge again was hella hot.It was 3am at this time so I just parked it to deal with it the morning.On the way to work todat it started overheating again within minutes of me driving it and then I added almost 2 gallons of water to it when i left work for my house,during the 15minute drive it started steaming like a *****,so i got it home and Iam confused,could it be a cracked gasket?I looked at my oil stick and there was no water on it,is there any visible way for me to tell if it is the head gasket?What should I be looking for in a situation like this?Another key thing is,when I have the radiator cap off and the car running to get to temp so I can see whats boiling and where,my fluids are being *BURPED* back up thru the radiator cap openingmwhat could that be?Thanks all in advance for helping me,or atleast guiding me in the direction of an answer,cheers!!!!

 

Soundds like there is a leak somewhere. Ie cracked radiaor, Blown headgasket, Bad hoses.

 

A thought that came to my mind was maybe your thermostat is stuck and won't open. Or maybe your radiator is clogged..But being a 94, I don't see how it would happen that fast.. My guess is the thermostat..

 

sounds like an old, busted radiator. the capacity of the cooling system is around 2 gal

 

just curious, but why did you leave your car and air on and running for an hour while you were inside?

 

Ive been told that it could also be my water pump,does that sound like a maybe to you guys?how would i check to see if it was my pump?please all help is needed!thanks again in advance and thanks for all ur input thus far........cheers!!!

 

Have the coolant checked for combustion gases. I suspect a bad head gasket if it is eating coolant like that, without visible signs of a leak anywhere.

Like someone else said, check the thermostat too . . . make sure it is opening and closing at the proper temperature.

 

A couple of my friends have had problems with the water pump and thermostat on b16a's.
Dont quite know why they act up (they were all swapped btw and one came without a ****** thermostat)

But most likely a leak somewhere, F'd up radiator or the fans not working (happened on my ITR on a 400km drive through the middle of nowhere).

 

how did it start to over heat were you over reving or blow ur head

 

also filling it with just water is not good because you will be dilluting the coolant. You should be filling with coolant+water
