Default 15 X 7 wheels vs. 15 X 6.5 wheel.... would the extra 1/2 inch slow me down?

I'm wondering, if going from a 15 X 6.5 wheel to a 15 X7 wheel, would that extra half inch slow me down? I know it would offer me slightly better grip due to contact area though, any insight would be appreciated.

get the 7" wheel. that extra half inch makes use of the tire better seeing you will be running at least a 205mm tire.and no, it won't slow you down one bit.

it will weigh more, and i dont see the point of adding the width on the rim so long as the tire width is 205...
actually, i've found a 205 to fit best on a 7inch rim. i run staggered sizes (225/45 front, 205/50 rear) and the 225's get pulled inward (i forgot the technical name for this) at the bead of the tire, wheras the 205's are a near square fit. actually, i took a pic of a gti that has the complete opposite problem....

I'd go wider, whatever you add in weight will be more than made up for with traction, especially with acceleration/handling. That's just me though.

That is either not a VW GTI or it has the wildest body kit ever made. Come on now guys how many of you don't wish you had that extra 1/2 an inch! Oh wait we're talking about tires, never mind!

Get 7" wide wheels. For crisp handling, you'll want the extra half inch.

Always buy the widest wheel you can. That bulge may look cool, but it does nothing for handling.
