Default Girl Here... Need Help!!!!

Hi all! I need a diagnosis for my car. I have a 99 Accord and the problem I'm having is that when I press the break, it doesn't release the lock so I can put my car into gear right away. I have to press on the break multiple times for it to unlock. Any ideas as to what it could be?? Thanks!

Could be that the brake sensor release thingy is going bad. I can check out the Helms for you just send me a PM when you have a chance.

Check the brake release underneath the center console where your shifter is. Its actually just a plastic lock that lifts up/down with a spring. I fixed mine in my Accord by pulling it out and just re-greasing it. Somtimes they just get stuck.

The part you guys are refering to is the shift interlock switch. It is located in the center console. When you push on the brake pedal listen for a click sound coming from the center console. If there is no click sound this is your problem.

The interlock switch could just be all gummed up.
Usually happens after dumping a soda (pop) down the console, or just a nasty accumulation of dirt over time. Cleaning it may correct the problem.

The brake switch should be checked too. If it's broken or there is a loose wire, the interlock won't get the volts it looks for to release the shifter.

Actually it could be as simple as low break fluid.

I have a 98 accord with 132k. I bought the car new and have noticed this problem also off and on. It's really weird! No spillage of soda, etc. It hasn't done it in more than 7 months, but it might come back. Don't know what to say about diagnosis.
