I have a y8 tranny sitting around in my closet and I got this majical idea of actually swapping it on. I am currently running around in an all stock y7 and if any of you guys seen my other posts I am antsy about adding more pep, even considered a B swap since selling my turbo kit (that I never put on).

I was wondering if the y8 tranny might give me the extra pep Im looking for and if its worth the time and hassle of the swap. What would be the better swap in yalls opinion..a y8 head or a y8 tranny? Just trying to guage performance figures..

I may end up keeping the D after all, Im a sucker for finding deals and so far my search for a B has been unsucessful. If you guys could help me out with this question I would appreciatte it.

Heh, my EX is my first Civic, and if the d16y8 is the best d-series offering for the 96-00's, then I feel bad for all you dx/cx/vx bastards out there.

 

u could do a mini me, y8 head and tranny, that might give u the "pep" your looking for but not enoug. its not that hard, just work for a day and it will be done but personally i would sell your turbo and save for your swap

 

Hey guys thanks. I dont wanna do the mini me swap. I just sold my y8 head yesterday on ebay anyway.

Im not looking to be the fastest out there, thats not for me. I just want a somewhat peppy car. I've pretty much figured a B swap regardless is going to cost me anywhere from 1700-2700 depending on what motor.

I can piece together a kit for my D for less then 500$ and hold off a B pretty well. I just want to know if the y8 tranny is worth the effort. How much improvment could one see on a stock y7?

ahh thats what I was looking for.

 

True that. I dont need gobs of HP and dont want to go turbo, but I do want SOME extra kick in the pants, and get to do a little wrenching on my car as well, so I'm rebuilding the head and slapping a nice little cam in there.

 

there sint muching gearing diff frmo the Ex to the rest beside in the the Hx model. just lok in your honda owner manaul and it tells you the gear rations and misc. bull ****
