Default Problems with mini-me

A buddy of mine has a d15b7 block with a d16z6 head. One day we raced someone, and as soon as he released the clutch the cars rpm gauge started to jump and his car began to backfire. Now his car began to get worse and now everytime he drives he cannot pass 3,000 rpm, because the car begins to backfire like crazy. We did the timing all over again and it still does the same problem. We also switch computers and that wasnt it. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

hmmm...sounds like what happened to me..it was due to two wires...the two white wires...on that connects to your fuse box and the other one that connects to the black box on the shock tower..i had those two switched around and ran off the battery for two days..it started to back fire like hell, and ran like *** crap..but who knows..might be your timing..
