what happened to my clutch?pics
Its an Action 1MS 6-puck with an ACT Streetlite Flywheel. There's approximately 12,000 miles on the clutch and flywheel, never had problems until the other day. This is what i came up with after i pulled the tranny off.
Basically happened after a 6k rpm launch....."preloading" the the clutch though. After shifting into second i heard a high pitched whining sound. Kinda like a sharp metal to metal contact sound as well as lots of vibration after letting off the clutch. Haven't pulled apart the transmission, i don't plan to.....but im assuming that the symptoms occured because of whats seen in the pics below.
Answer me this......Are six-pucks meant to be engaged instantly right?? In a case where you are preloading the clutch do full face clutches hold up better? does that make sense?? Thanks.

not too long...hard to remember but i wanna say around ~6 seconds or so. well i guess that is a long time. :shrugs:
p.s.
my clutches always have the honor of having to bare with constant abuse. actually i never expected this clutch to last this long.........i just made this for info purposes only. Thanks "fastrunner", that makes perfect sense.........i guess there's always a tradeoff when doing things like this........ala shorter life on clutches.

You can't let out the pedal slow at the rpm. You will heat glaze it like you did. You have to let it out real quick if your doing a high rpm launch.
Urethane engine mounts will allow you to get traction letting it out faster

that looks ugly....but is that the only puck that got dugged in like that? maybe there was somethin that got between your clutch....i dunno actually just guessin...but yah..sux to see that happen...it dont look like you have too much meet on your clutch either. or flywheel.
Yea it almost looks like something dropped between one of the pucks and your flywheel. Notice how the worn parts are not equal across the whole clutch or flywheel... when both are perfectly flat. Seems like if the damage was caused by overheating, it would be spread equally across the radius of the flywheel, along with on more than 1 of the pucks.

only 1 question.. did u fix it with something bigger and better? (another step up?)</TD></TR></TABLE>
thanks man....i don't think my new clutch would be considered bigger and better just different(maybe a step down). its a clutchmaster full face organic clutch disc w/ new pressure plate. just got my flywheel resurfaced. the old action clutch was great...i absolutely loved it.........
oh if the new clutchmaster clutch doesn't work out the guy at the shop gave me a hella deal.....he gave me a 3puck sprung c.m. disc for free...he said to just take it. lol. i don't think id ever use that but hey at least i have a replacement disc on hand
