i've been searching and reading around about this topic and i've been getting mixed responses about hi flow cats on whether it will pass smog here in california.
i just installed an obd2 carsound hi flow cat and wanted to find a definitive answer on whether it will pass or not? (btw i have and obd2 cat that was originially meant for some ford v8.)
and also will it hinder or raise performace, all be it even if it is just a miniscule/big loss/gain in power/torque? is obd2 that much different than obd1 in respect to power/torque and passing/failing smog?
thanks guys.

i have a 2.75 catback with DC 4-1 header.
passed with no problem.
the only time it failed was when i thought i could beat the system by taking the check engine light out.
now i have to pay 135 to get a new purge control solenoid and charco cannister.
code 191

as long as it has a carb number, it will pass. thats the point of having that carb eo number, is the fact that the company has proven it will pass so you dont have to worry about it. reasons why others dont pass b/c they have a hi flow cat is b/c they have other mods causing them not to pass, not b/c of their carb legal hi flow cat (unless it was defective). you will pass, given that there arent any other factors that effects your smog, such as bad o2, non-carb legal mods, etc.
when i had my civic i had a manaflow exhaust with cat - 2.5i nch piping and no resonator and i didn't have any problems passing smog.
fyi exhaust diameter doesnt effect smog readings, only decibal readings. you could have a 3.0" piping exhaust and still pass smog given your car doesnt have any other non-carb mods or problems

i also have another question:
since i have an obd2 engine in my obd1 civic, does it matter which cat i use (obd1 or obd2)?

I have a random tech hi flow cat on my car and pass smog with no problems.Since you have a obd1 computor in your car it doesn't matter what cat you use because your obd1 ecu only uses one o2.

u talking bout the light in the back of the cluster? what does taking out the check engine light have to do with it? jsut wondering? i didnt pass with i/h/cat/e until i put the stock header and exhaust back on but i was close to passing thou

alright, now that we got that out of the way, is one better than the other in terms of performance?
