Default What is this boot called? And is it an easy fix?

These boots are busted on both sides of the car. But I am not sure what they are called. Can they be fixed as easily as a CV boot using some type of Split boot kit?

Thanks for your help!

thats the dust boot for the steering rack. they arent bad to replace, but you'll need an alignment when your done.

Those are the tie rod dust covers - they are not as important as a CV boot and should be easier to fix. Check out your tie rod ends (inner and outer) and make sure their bushings are intact, lubed, etc. If they aren't, you can replace all of them at the same time, which isn't too hard - then just get an alignment afterward.

I think on the 2nd side in your pics, the inner tie rod looks pretty messed up, you would at least need to fix that, as long as the outer tie rod is fine. Here is a pic of the tie rods, so you can get an idea of what you are looking at.

Get some new tie rods and tie rod ends. I thought those were called steering bellows not tie rod dust covers but whatever you call it you obviously need new ones. Not hard to change but you will need an alignment afterwards for sure.

So you guys think I need new tie rods as well as the dust covers? I can’t just grease up the old rods and slap on some new covers? Please excuse my ignorance, I haven’t had any experience with this type of problem and I am trying to avoid taking my car to the stealership where they will rape me on parts and labor. If it is an easy do-it-yourself project I would prefer to do it myself.

I would advise at least a new inner tie rod end on the one side that looks really messed up, other than that, use your judgement. I would replace all of them, but I am **** about stuff like that. You may be able to get them off of a junk car or off someone used, as long as they are in good shape. As I recall, those dust covers aren't packed with grease, they are part of the steering rack, so they aren't like CV boots. just look up the helms instructions on replacing them (go to redpepperracing.com to see a pdf by chapter or helminc.com and order it).

The picture comes up if you go on http://www.acuraparts247.com and click on the TIE ROD END section (which only comes up for me when I do 92 Integra, but when I try 95 GSR that section isn't displayed, try searching through the steering and suspension sections). It may be easier to find a pic on http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org.

I could not find it either under a 95 integra. Strange, I wonder why it is not listed? Anyway, Thanks for all your help I really appreciate it!
