Piston install question
is it necessary to bore out the block when installing pistons on a fresh motor? my motor only has 12k miles on it but if i have to take it out and have it bored out it's not really worth the money to do so... i remember reading that if it was this fresh you can just scuff up the cylinder walls a little? anyone got any advice?
the procedure is in the helm's...u need a honing stone and hone the walls in a 60 degree triangle pattern....
i dont think i'd try it by myself...and im pretty sure u have to pull the motor

I change my pistons myself last summer and honed the cylinder wall with a honing tool that you can buy and fit in a regular hand drill. You have to use at least 400 grit stones and the procedure is only to clean the wall surface and make a diamond shape pattern (I guess it is to help the oil cling to the wall and lubricate better) Keep in mind that you don't want to increase the cylinder diameter so don't hone to long.

honing is easy i'm sure you can find a friend to help you out...also if thats all you are doing is installing new pistons then you can just leave the motor in the car...just be sure to clean the cylinder walls with warm soapy water, then make sure there is no more grit from honing in the bottom of the walls and re-oil them down really good and you should be ready to go..
portflow does good headwork..or is one of the more popular ones.
