thats the number one cylinder top dead center position sensor. its in the distributor. to find out if that is REALLY the problem, disconnect the big round plug from the back of your distributor and put an ohm meter on the 2 bottom pins on the plug that is conected to the distributor. there are 7 pins in that plug, and if you hold it correctly, there are 2 columns of 3 pins, and then a single pin in the middle on the right. looks like this

test the 2 lowest. if you dont get any resistance, then you need to replace your distributor. if you do get resistance, it should be around 350-550 ohms. if you get resistence, then check the other plug, the same 2 connectors.. you deffinetly should have continuity there. test those first and see..

ive had that before in my d16a6 hatch, it ran ok, but would miss at certain rpms. tried everything, replaced wires and spark plugs and distributor cap and rotor and nothing.. but talked to a tech and said to test those 2 wires and the circuit was open.

its a dohc engine so the sensor is not in the distributor, the sensor is ok and the wiring also, so what next to check.

camshaft timing can also give you code 9 - make sure belt didn't jump a tooth
