how do you tell if you have a gsr tranny? i just pick up a hydo tranny and the guy says it's a gsr but i see no s80 any where on the tranny ...

i do see some #'s but theres no s80 in them ....

do all gsr have s80 on them ??

 

there are a few ways, i'll list easy to hardest.

if its a us 96-01, it will have a vin tag. run the vin # on carfax. (although thats not 100% because the internals could have been changed)

if its a 94-97 gsr, it will have a tapered carrier bearing on the diff (instead of the sealed roller bearing) you'll have to pop off the axle seal to see.

if its a 98-01, it will have the sealed roller bearing which is the same as all the other b series trans. if thats the case there are two ways to check:

stick a axle in one side, mark 12 oclock on the axle with a marker. slide a clutch disc on the input shaft and mark 12 oclock. rotate the input shaft 4.4 times. if the mark on the axle is at 12 oclock again after you rotated the input shaft, its got a 4.4 fd (b16a also has). if it falls short of 12 oclock, you've got an ls (4.26)

take it apart and see count the teeth on the ring and pinion to check the fd.

how do you know which one lsd? what years did the gsr tranny with lsd come with?

 

usdm gsr never came with an lsd...but u can tell by lookin at the hole were the axle goes and if u can see stright through it it got lsd
