ihave a weird tapping noise in my engine. it does it when im idling and then it will stop until about 3000 rpms my friend says its the valves could it be anything else? please help.

it could be numerous things.why not do a valve adjustment and see if it fixes it?if not,come back and we'll take it from there.

My B16A does the same thing that you're describing....I had the valve adjusted a month ago and it still does it. Someone told me it could be the LMA's.

 

could be valve tap. Oil pressue increases with rpm's sending more oil from the bottom of the pan to the top of the engine. Hold on I think we found normal ops.

 

it's probably your injectors. honda has some of the loudest injectors. what engine do you have? i just got a little ef with dual point and them suckas are loud.

that is also a possibility.if you have a mechanic's stethoscope,use it to probe the injectors and see if they're the source of the noise.you can also put the tip of a screwdriver on the injector and your ear to the other end to try to pinpoint the noise.
a valve adjustment couldn't hurt,regardless of if it's the problem.they may need it anyway,and it will rule out that possibility.
is this an engine you just put in your car?any idea on mileage?or has it just started doing it?

many people underestimate valve lash. .001-.002 makes a big difference

 

my motor is a d16y8, ive had the car about 6 months and i just noticed the tapping noise. its got about 130,000 miles on it im wanting to do a swap but i cant find any good priced swaps.

I got my swap from Hmotorsonline.com I would recommend them to anybody, my motor was flawless when I got it and it runs great.

definately do a valve adjustment,then see how it goes.
