Default Ordering Testpipe had 1 question

Ok I just sent Dave (SMSP) a PM about ordering a testpipe.

I want to install it before I get the car back on the dyno and get it tuned right. I did some searching and a lot of people were saying that the test pipe is like 16 7/8" for a JDM 4-1 header such as mine.

But I already have a smsp exhaust with a hollow carsound cat (sounds like **** hense the test pipe will hopefully eliminate some raspy sounds) and I measured the cat (i believe) to be 16". Can anyone confirm that the pipe needs to be 16"?

That test pipe isn't going to reduce any of that raspiness dood! Put another resonator on the exhaust somewhere if you are concerned with sound issues.

thanks for the reply, but the thing is, the exhaust was no where near as raspy before the cat got hollowed out. I can hear the air swirling around when I drive the car, and when the things cold, and I shift, it almost sounds like a tiny blow off underneath the car.

So the testpipe should definately help with the sound, at least get rid of the raspyness caused by the hollow car. As for the overall sound, I can;t decide if its a little raspy because of the resonator, or the muffler.

You shouldnt have hollowed a cat, that was a rather expensive part to waste like that. But the testpipe wont reduce the raspiness at all, like Jon D already stated.

The catalytic provides a great sound dampner as well as the pollution reduction benefits. A testpipe wont help the sound at all, in fact if the cat wasnt hollowed out thoroughly it might even be louder with the testpipe.

sorry i should have said this as well. The cat is hollow because it went up on me and fell apart on the inside. and it is hollowed clean, i have had the exhaust down and looked through it.

And like i said before. maybe raspy is the wrong word, because since the cat has been hollowed out, the exahust has just not sounded as good., but still is a nice deep throaty feel at idle.

Run a resonator as a test pipe

I was going to say, get a resonated testpipe. Before I got my comptech race header, I ran a JDM 4-1 w/resonated testpipe and it definately smoothed out the sound of my T1R.

as long as Dave at SMSP knows what header and b-pipe you are using, he usually knows what to make.
