SCCA School w/ 2 seats?
Has anyone hear run an SCCA Driver's School with a Passenger seat? If so, did you actually get an instructor in the car? I'm considering buying another seat for the passenger side, but I don't want to waist the extra time and money buying one if it won't be used.
Thanks,
Thanks,
You can get an SCCA license in any logbooked car AFAIK, so if you have an FF you don't need to install a seat on the side pod. Most of the school is about passing, starting, and obeying flags safely as far as I've read/been informed. It'll probably actually be about how well you obey instructions from the passenger, since you'll have a lot of passengers during a club race.
I asked that same question at the school. The answer I got was "which instructer in their right mind would get in the car with a novice"... i stopped asking after that

yeah, I was also thinking of having a second seat for that purpose and was told the exact same thing. Despite the fact that the SCCA encourages students to have a second seat to have instructors ride with them, it seems that the instructors' instinct of self preservation wins.
Don't bother.

What he said.
BUT... the passenger seat can still be useful for test days. So, I would still consider adding the passenger side seat (and herness, and window net, and brace).

I've been to most of the WDCR schools in the last few years and I've never seen an instructor ride with a student, even though the supps have always said that it was encouraged

and I wish they would remove that paragraph from the supps if no instructor want to ride along (which is fine, btw)

Yeah, I saw that phrase in the Sups. too.
I'll probably buy/install an extra seat (window net, proper belts, and seat-back brace) eventually, but since I have some other things to take care of before the WDCR school, I'll just leave it out for now.
Thanks for the input.

at the double school i did last march in St Louis i don't remember a single instructor riding with a student (especially in a downpour with big concrete oval walls a few feet away).
take the seat out for SCCA schools. i think i remember something in the GCR about they aren't allowed for races anyway.
