Default Integra 2 dr hatchbacks... Speakers in rear shelf?

I have a 98 integra 2 dr. Has anyone mounted speakers in the rear hatch area shelf instead of the stock side locations? would 6x9s back there add more bass than the 6 1/2s that are in the the stock locations now? not looking for sub bass levels, but just a bit more than the smallish 6 1/2s can provide. anyone tried this before? results?

No, mounting speakers, even 6X9's in that location will do nothing for your mid-bass. The area under the cargo cover is too large and your speaker will behave as though they are in a free air environment. 6-1/2" speakers in the stock location will be the best bet for some mid-bass. Something to look for to increase the mid-bass a little are coaxial speakers that use a "bridge" to hold the tweeter above the cone area. Where as most tweeters are located on a post which mounts in the center, these do not have that hole for mounting the tweeter. This translates into a solid cone which no air car move through, which equals a little better mid-bass. Take a look at the Kenwood Excelon "Dual Mag" speakers to get an idea what I mean.

Here is an example from Lanzar: http://www.audio-warehouse.com/detail.asp?mdl=VB6.2

I've got a hook up on Pioneer products... is this something I should take advantage of, or is Pioneer not that great in the speaker area. I was going to replace all my speakers with Pioneer, but I dunno what's the best models they make or if it's even worth it. My rear speakers are blown in my Integra so my first step is to replace them... anyone have 6 1/2" Pioneer's back their? How do you like them? Which model? Thanks

Pioneer makes excellent speakers. Can you tell the difference between $300.00 MB Quarts and $100.00 Pioneers?? If your like 95% percent of people then you can spen a lot of money on the name, but for actual performance Pioneers are great.

Pioneer is THE largest speaker and speaker component manufacturer in the world. I would recommend the Pioneer TSA-1665 or the Premier TSE-1695. Or if you want to wait a few weeks the Premier TS-D160R looks like it's going to be an excellent performer.

If you want to order some speakers or if you have some questions I'll be working today from 12:00-6:00 eastern time. Just check out the site and give us a call.

Carl

I have the TS-A1695 and TS-A1665 available from my supplier.. The TS-A1695 is "oversized" as well as a 2 way, as opposed to a 3 way speaker... and it is also $20 more. Any idea which is actually better and would suit my needs best.. i listen to hip hop and techno mostly. Thanks~
