Default taking out motor...leaving in tranny?

Anybody ever take out their motor but leave the tranny mounted in?

Limited resources so I plan on taking off the head first, which is almost off....then dropping the block; i'd rather unbolt the crossmember and do it that way, and no i will not use a crane, the front of the car as of now is grass.

Also, this car is an auto.

I think drop the motor with tranny would be the easiest way to go, u dont need to take off ur starter and unbolt the tranny from the engine.

unbolt the tranny mount and pop out the axle, u'r golden, y go thru all the trouble?

Much easier dropping it as a whole.

I've submarined an engine out of a car, and jacked it back into place, but never just the engine. Let us know how it works out.

It's a PITA to get the motor back in, and get everything lined up right. It's much easier to take it out together & reinstall together.

I also posted in the tech forum and a few people who have actually done it, say they do it all the time...pulling out the motor and not the tranny, say its a cinch.

"I do it all the time, it's alot less work. 5-speeds are a different story though."

"yup u can, done it all the time..auto and manual pretty much the same."

anyways, i'm gonna try it. My buddy just traded me this car, since he doesn't want to deal with it. worse comes to worse i can unbolt the tranny. But i dont see how it would be harder, since u dont take out the engine pull off the tranny, for a clutch lets say Once i unbolt the driverside mount, theres gonna be plenty of room to manuever it off the tranny.

Do i like my auto lol, what do you want say, No i fukken hate it, thats why its staying auto! lol

For real tho, I like having at least one car that is auto, still got the 5spd DA. But the 2g crx/4g civic's auto tranny is nothing to be proud of. My fiance might need to drive it when we move in together anyway. Dont get me wrong i have thought about doing a b series swap or even sohc vtec, but i'm in debt. Maybe i could pull of the mini-me, if i could get everything needed to make it mpfi(ive got ecu, resistor), a z6/y8 head, and a 5spd tranny for under 200 bux, i could possibly do it. Ive also thought about swapping the DA motor and parts over, but i wouldn't know what to do with the rest of the car, wonder if a junkyard would pick it up with no suspension
