I would say a gsr is more reliable.... But an Ls/vtec can put down some nice # if built right..........

A properly built LSVTEC will probably last just as long... There are a lot of factors that play in building a reliable engine. Is the rotating assembly balanced? Are ARP rod/head bolts going to be used? Main girdle? Good valvetrain? Good engine management and tune? ****, If you take your time and spend a little cash, you could have a damn reliable LSVTEC and still make some sick NA power.

an lsvtec is just as reliable as any other motor. the reasons you hear horror stories about them is this:

people want to over rev.
people just slap a vtec head on a ls block and think they are golden.
built poorly(true for any motor)

a motor is as good as how/who built it. the thing is to build an lsvtec you have to more or less start from scratch. if you tore a gsr apart and had some asshat that didnt know what he was doing put it back together you would see similar problems that you hear about with lsvtec's.

in the end it depends on what you want out of the motor. so ask yourself that question and then it will be a lot easier to decide b16, b18c, lsvtec.

I personally don't have any experince with Lsvtec's but I'm stating my opinon on this that I've heard and read........... I've seen an Lsvtec built and then a few weeks later it blew up...... but In the other hand I saw almost the same setup bulit from someone else put down a good 220 to the wheels......... So I'm really not sure about ls/vtec.. But Gsr's I know, went through like about 3 or 4 of them.....

stock gsr 141whp
stock b16 135whp
sotck ls 122whp

lsvtec (stock block gsr head with gsr cam)148whp

after tuning 161whp

stock b16 with buddy club 3+ cam 145whp
stock b16 with buddy club 3+ cam and cam gear adjusted 152whp

Unless you use stock parts everywhere you can... I dont' think you will be able to put together a good LSVT for $3G's. (Unless you do alot of the work yourself)

I have had all 3 versions personally... straight LS, properly built LSVT and GSR. I am currently on my GSR engine and IMHO... go straight up GSR and build from there later on. I'm a proponent of properly done LSVTs, but you can't beat a stock engine.
