LS Vtec Oil Leak, what is the caused?????
Ok, I just had my Ls/vtec setup done like a week ago but now it's leaking oil. I believe it's around the back area where the block and the head meets. What is the cause and how do I fix it? Any info would be helpful.
i had the same pronblem when i had my built
for mine it turned out that the machine shop did not plug the vtec oil passage right on the head. to cheak if its leaking from the vtec oil passage oil pluge on the head just disconnect the vtec oil line and plug it so there will be no oil going to activate vtec. if the leak stops then the plug is bad if it does not stop then that is not your problem
that was my problem
also it could be that the dowels were not machined properly on the intake side of the head.
or the head or block is warped
did you deak the block, resurface the head? did you check the block and head with a straight edge to see if it was warped.
are you useing a ls gasket and not a vtec headgasket
are you useing gsr/itr head bolts and not b16 or ls head bolts
did you torque the head bolts in the correct sequance

sounds like a bad job...
an oil passage not properly sealed...
or stock head studs not torqued properly,
or mistmatched head studs..

I purchased the GSR head that had the oil hole plugged. Where is the oil hole located that needs to be plugged (intake side near the dizzy)?
The previous owner said that the head wasn't deck but just cleaned by a machine shop. I attachmented a photo of the head in question.
If the head was warp, I would also have coolent and oil issues. It's not that much oil and it only leaks when I drive it.
The leak isn't coming from the vtec selenoid but from the back side near the distributor (intake side). I am using aebs head studs and a HP LS head gasket.

i did the lsvtec swap in dec and mine is leaking oil too. i thought at first it was coming from the timing belt cover not being in place, but later found out it was just over filled with oil.
how long have you been running it since you did the swap?

My LS/Vtec has always leaked. I have replaced the head gasket and the oil plug is okay too. I wish I could find the cause of the leak.

could be your problem? i don't know much about ls/vtec set ups by any means, but these two lines caught my eye as i read the posts.

i dont know much about the ls vtec swap but i have a question isnt there a difference between the ls headgasket and the gsr head gasket? Isnt the compression of the gasket more on the gsr? Your using a gsr head maybe the ls head gasket aint holding? Im just guessing
p.s....when i say compression i mean mean like torque on the head. and the thickness between the ls and gsr head gasket.

I'm not sure about that but I do know that to do an LS vtec setup u have to use a non vtec headgasket. As for the torquing down part, the head will probably be retorqued if I can not resolve the leak issues.
