im getting a new clutch in my 95 accord lx and i read on the exedy website that if your flywheel is warped that it will cause chatter and mess up your new clutch... is a lghtened flywheel really worth 300+ dollars?

The lighter flywheel allows your engine to rev faster. Good thing is it improves acceleration....Bad thing is you lose gas mileage

I know it revs up faster. Also your revs drop faster while shifting, but how does it effect the gas milage?

it doesnt do jackshit for mileage, unless you like to rev-match and heel-toe all day long through traffic, its useless, just machine your stock one to clean up the surface, don't bother lightening it

Will you be driving on the Highway? Think about cruising in 5th gear at 4500 RPM at 65-70 mph.... tell me that does'nt take away gas mileage :Dumb MFer:

Just less reciprocating mass... Never a bad thing.

So your point is since it takes less effort to get it up to redline your going to use more fuel in city driving, with all the stop and go?

It would not effect milage while cruising at constant speed though.

I don't really follow, are you saying that putting a lighter flywheel will shorten your gear ratio and make you rev higher when cruising?

wtf,
dude you're trippin man,
a lightweight flywheel is NOT going to change your GEARING
you are going to have the same rpm at the same speed no matter what you do
to your engine or clutch. The only thing that can change that is the overall size or your wheels/tires, and the gearing inside your transmission.

I have never heard anyone say a lw flywheel will affect your gas mileage either.
i mean, in the longrun it might, cuz your engine will be more fun to drive so you'll mash on it more often. And you do have to give it some more gas to get going from a dead stop too...

but it's not actually affecting your mileage.. just how you drive..

I installed my Spoon 9lb Flywheel on my GS-R. Still go about 80mph at 4grand. No difference. As far as the gas mileage goes, I don't seem to notice any difference.

dood do you have a lightened flywheel and documented gas mileage loss? i used to get 30mpg on the h22 with i had the lightened flywheel.

and if you need to rev it alot to move from a stand still it just means you suck at driving

dont go lighter than like 11-13lbs, somewhere in that range.

12 is the sweet spot probably.

its not ez to find,
ask at your local import/tuner shop they would know,
and alot easier than going thru the yelo pages or something.

i tried that.. there are ALOT of machine shops out there..
most of them wont know wtf ur talking about, haha.
