Ecu code 54....CKF Sensor...Help!!
Can anyone tell me where the Crankshaft Speed Fluctuation sensor might be located? The code came up yesterday after getting rid of the misfiring code. I had to replace spark plugs and wires and it ran fine for a short trip into town, but when i got back home the CEL came on with this code. I dont know if it has been unplugged or if its defective, but my car runs like **** at idle. Please someone help. Thanks.
CKF sensor is on the block behind the lower timing cover.. you can see the wire and plug coming out to the right of the crank pulley..
i had to rewire mine as the wires rubbed the alternator belt and shredded.. it threw the same code..
so yeah, either something is wrong with the connection/sensor, or there really is a problem..

Check/adjust your timing belt?

im willing to bet yours did the same thing as his. Came lose and shredded on the alt belt. My friends did the same thing and i was under the car with a soldering iron and shrink tubeing. Get under the beast and double check the wires. If its not the wires the sensor could have taken a ****. I got one sitting at my house new in the bag if its the same part number.

Well i checked the wires and sensor and everything seems to be fine. Whats part number for the one you have at your house?

you might want to go ahead and check your timing belt out, just to eliminate that.. the sensor is behind it and you're going to have to take it off anyway to replace the sensor..
did this misfire CEL and then the subsequent CKF sensor CEL just randomly happen? has anyone worked on your motor lately?

The timing belt looks perfectly fine, I justed tightened it about a month ago. I had the misfire CEL because my spark plugs pretty much fouled out from not having the 2 O2 sensors in and my spark plug wires werent getting a good seal on the spark plug itself. So I changed the spark plugs and wires with oem plugs and ngk wires. After I put the new wires and plugs in, the car ran fine until I was in my neighbor hood and it made a crazy rattling sound at 2-3K rpm coming from underneath my shift ****. I have a T1R exhaust and test pipe and it does rattle at the muffler at the same rpms but it never rattled right underneath where the shifter bolts in. After the rattling noise the car sat for a couple hours until I went into town and thats when the CEL came on and everytime I go into neutral to stop at a light or stop sign, it feels like the car is going to stall and sometimes it almost does until I give it gas. Could that be because of the CEL? When driving the car runs fine and pulls hard, it just runs rough at idle.

Id try replacing the sensor first.
The sensor i have will not work as it is from a Civic. This sensor plugs into the wiring harness on its own unlike the Type R sensor which is loomed together with another sensor. I checked with a few local dealerships and the cheapest ive seen it for is about 96 bucks before taxes.

Honda calls it a Sensor Assy, Crank TDC. It's commonly known as the crank angle sensor. If you are getting a code 54, then it is the crank angle sensor. This code(54) also applies only to 96-up vehicles, OBD2, when the crank angle sensor was introduced on Honda motors.

Yes i know this thread is dead but my car is running a b16a in an em1 with the p2t so i am throwing the same code.
My question is did you ever figure out why yours was acting like it was dying in traffic?
Was it in fact that it was acting like that because of the ckf sensor?
Im about to rechip and tune my obd1 ecu and was hoping when i did, i ofcourse wouldnt have the ckf but hopefully itll fix that low idle.

check to make sure the sensor is not loose. The excess vibration could cause 'phantom knock'. Any metal to metal rattling around the sensor can cause it to detect it.
