Default Building new engine...Got some Q's

Well, i am building a new ls motor (Vtec is a little spendy for me now) and i was thinking about boring it out , My freind has some b20z2 pistons for like 175 with rings all brand new in the box. he told me with a ls head the comp is gonna be around 9.6 Would this run ok? (I would be running eagle rods)

i wouldnt bore ur cylinder walls out if i were you. there isnt much material there to begin with and it really isnt even worth it because you arent going to get much displacement. i think the first thing to do would be to ask urself some questions. are you going to turbo or go all motor? turbo applications run lower compressions therefore perhaps get some forged low compression pistons. i could go on and on for days but before you can get started you need to figure out what you want.

for an all motor set-up 9.6 c/r is pretty low. that is actually more like the c/r for a turbo set-up.

it'll be worth it with the torque he gains! his motor is also gonna be stroked as well as bored, so he will definately get more displacement. as far as reliability goes, that's a whole different topic. i hope you are going to sleeve it!!!

whoops didnt even realize it was stroked............. ya but still stroking is much better for displacment than boring either way ur gonna want to bore for an all motor set up. and 9.6:1 compressions is too low. i would just invest in some forged higher compression pistons and rods if you dont have already.

But since i want to bore it, wouldnt a higher comp ratio be a lil more dangerous? I would sleeve it and go 11:1 but i dont have a couple g's to do that, all my money is tied up in other parts since im kind of on a budget. Would it be better then to leave it stock size?

dude the ls piston are higher cr than the b20b/z...if your going to bore it and use them pistons then TURBO that bitch...if not just tare that motor apart and throw in some pr3/p30/ or even the pct pistons and blue print everything...just gotta run 91 or higher, and tune it
