Default changing the axle and do you need to refill tranny fluid?

Well... i was rotating my wheels today on my 96 dx hatch w/ manual transmission which i bought about 2 months ago and i got 2 suprises. The good suprise was that my front suspension has camber kit and the bad suprise was that my drivers side outer cv boot was torn.

My question is... tranny fluid will leak out, but how much will leak out and will i need to refill it?

thanks for all your answers,
ian

Remove the VSS and the fill plug from the transmission. Pour in fluid through the VSS hole until it leaks out of the fill plug. Then put the VSS and fill plug back in and you're good to go.

That's not tranny fluid, that's just grease that the cv boot was packed with. You ned a new axle, badly. Use this: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=382416

I actually did this job today on my car, and it went smoother than I anticipated, so you'll be good to go!

I found the same suprise with my passenger side outter boot when I took my tranny out, and driver's side was close to ripping too. I decided to get two new axles, mainly since I got remanufactured axles at wholesale price (lol and still haven't had to pay for them yet). I just can't believe what $692 (lol they messed up and charged 656, 5th/reverse were free 35k pulls too) in synchros/bearings can do for a tired LS tranny - it shifts like glass now. IMO its best to just replace all the tranny fluid, since 3 quarts of HMTF only costs a few bucks. One word about the axle removal - my swap isn't more than 3 years old and I had to soak the driver's side hub splines 8 times and got it near red-hot twice and beat the living **** outta it with a BFH before it would move. The other side was easily tapped out though Your luck will vary being a '96. Also r3emember to get the splines ring completely enguaged into the half shaft - loose axles are
