Default D16 Block differences

Here's my question.
I have a 2000 civic with a d16y8 engine. The motor was hydro locked and of course the block got fubared when a rod snapped and poked a hole thro the block.

So anyhow since there aren't a lot of y8 blocks where im from, from a 99-00 I want to know if any other D16 blocks will work and what the differences between them would be.

Yes I've searched but nothing is really that informative to my satisfaction and I know someone out there knows and can help me out more quickly then me searching on my own for anther week.

Thats what i thought. i allways thought the differences where in the pistons and compression ratio's.

I have the y8 so i know thats saposedly 127 hp my biggest question is that motor was ussed in 96-02 i belive. but when i looked it up the motor is different from 96-98 and 99-02 so.

Im just confussed....

the y8 is from a 96-00. 01 and up are different, i think. i might be wrong but 96-98 is obd2a and 99-00 is obd2b. theres no difference so it wouldnt matter

I just want to make sure i get this right.

My head from my y8 will bolt up to any d16 block 96+.

The obd differences should be on the head which to my knowledge is fine. So replace the block as a whole, rods and pistons should work out no proplem.

If so do i use the head gasket from the block im using or the one from the y8 head?

it will actually bolt up to any 96+ d series so it can even be a d15 but i sugest u stay with d16, and i would recomend getting a new head gasket

Sweet, now where were you a week ago when this info would of helped me a lot more lol, ahh well thanks again.

But just to paraphraise:

Any D16 block 96+ will work just fine.
There all the same the difference is in the heads
Also the piston and rods may be different but unlikely in most cases.
Use the head gasket from the Y8 head i have.

Sound about right???

Out of curiousity what is different about the heads from 95- ?

well i was here a week ago
yes any will work but the d16y7 has smaller displacement than the d16y8 which means less power. what do u mean the pistons and rods may be different?
yes use the head gasket from the head, always
and the 92-95 heads (d16z6) just have better flow

lol ok im confussed again.

But here we go, When I said they were different I meant compression wise.

So when i originally asked my question i meant what would the difference in compression and hp be by using different D16 blocks with my Y8.

Hope im coming acrose clear now cause im still confussed

umm i thought that since the block is a d16 (1.6L) that they all have the same displacement of 1.6L? am i wrong?

If you search for mini me you will find some helpful stuff. I have a y8 head on my y7 block.

ok heres my combined total of this thread to this point.

Displacement is the same on all D16 blocks (1.6l)
Compression does change but nothing to drastic or noticble
Bolt pattern is the same as long as the OBD is the same.
Aka obd1, obd2
Use your head gasket to match your head.

96+ blocks are ???
pre 96 blocks had better flow?

I think thats about it. If im wrong or something needs to be added let me know and ill edit my post so its all in one relevant spot on the thread. Cause im sure im not the only one whoes been wondering this....
