accidentally started from 3rd gear..

Default accidentally started from 3rd gear..

i accidentally put the car in 3rd gear when i started to move and i heard the engine start to sound weird and i waslike oh im in 3rd gear. the engine sounded like a diesel truck engine. could there be any engine damage, or is this unharmful?

burn your clutch this way , you engine should be fine

i've done this before...don't worry it shouldn't do anything to the motor because the motor wasn't at 2000+ rpm.

your car must have some good low end for that to happen. seriously though it only harms the clutch

You don't want to do it all the time, but once or twice won't really do much damage. The noise you heard was your engine 'lugging'. It's pretty much the same thing that happens when you're in traffic in first, and you don't give it enough gas and it starts to buck.

or is it too much load on the motor and its knocking?

I used to do this all the time to get going in the winter. FWD on icy *** roads sucks. 3rd gear gets you going nice and slow.

If you don't mind raping your clutch, you can start it in 5th as well. I could do it on accident in my S10, but that had plenty of torque .
