Performance muffler
Would like to get suggestions for a muffler for an 98 Integra GSR running in STS.
As per the rules for STS, "Exhaust system downstream of CAT can be modified => Stock CAT cannot be changed". My plan is to have a final set up like DC 4-1 header + stock CAT + the new muffler.
Any recommendations on the muffler? I have decided to go doe a DC header because of performance-price considerations.
Also, its daily driven street car...so, to the extend possible I would like to get a decent sound (=> read not so loud)

Read the rule posted. Anything downpipe of the car is legal. This header thing is illegal in STS.

Nope. Headers legal. Cats cannot be changed... and must remain in the same location as OEM. I wouldnt buy a POS $180 ebay header though.

The way, I interpret the STS rule was that, as long as you keep the stock CAT, you can change anything on the exhaust system.
The above picture seems to be that of a JUN header. There is another JUN header in ebay for $245.....

i'd have to recommend against that header.i have some experience with the SSAC 4-2-1 header,where all the flanges are so warped/irregular that none of the connections seal-and i mean "sounds like it's running an open header" kind of leak.i'm sure they spend tons of money on R&D to tune it too.
if you're getting a header,spend some money for something nice and proven,otherwise leave it stock.
for exhaust,any 2.5" mandrel bent,straight thru system should be fine.on both my car i built the exhaust with mandrel bends,then finished them off with Magnaflow mufflers.nice,deep sound and not too loud.if you're handy at fabbing,or have a friend who is,this can save you a ton of money.if not,a system from any of the popular manufacturers will be fine.

I guess, a Magnaflow muffler with 2.25" inlet, Dual 3.25" x 2.5" ovals(part# 14830) should be fine to weld onto the stock GSR bpipe?? I think the stock GSR pipe to the exhaust is 2.09" or so

i'd recommend a single outlet muffler-a dual outlet may cause turbulence,but i have no info to support that

as said above,a full exhaust is the only way to really get the full benefit,especially if you plan on using a header too.otherwise,you're mostly just making more noise.

Just the muffler? Thats not really worth any gain, you need to replace that small piping between the muffler and cat.

You do not NEED to have a muffler at all in STS. If you are going for an all out autoX-only STS build, just use a straight dump pipe bolted on back of the stock cat. (IIRC, the exhaust must exit at some point behind where the driver sits) It will save considerable weight and free up some power.

In my opinion, the 1 hp (maybe) that you'd gain between no muffler and muffler is not worth the annoyance to your competitors not to mention the surrounding community (who can fight to kick you guys out).

dude, just make it easy on yourself and order a off the shelf cat-back exhaust. if you want quiet, get an Apexi WS.
and I know STS champs have been using headers for years, but as you quoted the rules, a header is illegal. the header is not downstream of the cat. it is upstream. Are you quoting the rule incorrectly?

Because of this, I cannot go for an off the shelf exhaust system. Not sure about the anything upstream of CAT in the exhaust system??
