Brake Warning Light in EF Civic... I Give Up
The brake light came on during an enduro, and I can't figure out why.
I do know what it is NOT at this point...
- Fluid level
- Reservoir cap (replaced it)
- Ebrake switch
- Wiring (that I can find)
- Brake lights (all functioning)
Any suggestions?
I can't find anything helpful in the FSM, and I'm getting ready to just pull the bulb out of the damned thing.

mine has it too, but i haven't even bothered to look into it.
from some dealership knowledge I have collected over the years. The MC has the slide which measures fluid level. In cold weather it can stick which will leave the light on. Also aftermarket caps are supposed to suck for this reason and fail quite quickly. As long as my brakes are working and my fluid level is fine I haven't worried about it.

Righto .. but if I remember correctly, the last 2 times I saw your car at track, the brakes were not working that well.

Yeah, I thought that was the problem. I cleaned the original... Didn't fix it.
Then I bought a new OEM Honda reservoir cap... Didn't fix it.
I hate just ignoring warning lights. Its a bad habit.

Overheating and not working is two different things. I hate rear drums too.

Maybe a short in the dash panel? My factory water temp gauge would randomly peg on HOT which would freak me out till I gave the top of the dash a whack...then it would return to the normal reading. It seemed to get worse over time (maybe it did not like the abuse
). Now I have an aftermarket gauge, and the problem went away...

does this include cleaning the contacts at the back of the guage cluster?

This would only be the case if the brake warning light comes on if the circuit is open, but it works when a switch is closed(handbrake or fluid low switches). There is either a short in one of the wires to ground or the "Brake Check Relay" is bad. I do not know where this relay is.
