Default Anyone put a deck in the CD player spot (98 LX)?

I installed an Alpine deck in my 98 LX recently. I used the Metra 7891 kit, and it looks like crap. The radio's at an angle and facing up so the display looks like crap from the driver's seat, and I just don't like the whole situation. I was wondering if it would be possible to install the deck down in the dash where the factory CD player is. It's a little bit of a further reach to get at than up in the dash where it is now, but I thought of a few reasons why it would be better to put it down where the CD player is:
-I can put the stock radio back in and get my clock back.
-It will deter theives when they peek inside my car and see a factory radio, because I also have MB Quart speakers front and rear, and a JL 10 inch sub with a Phoenix Gold amp.
-I can further hide the Alpine by flipping up the cup holder lid.
-It will just look better than this lame Metra kit.

So, has anyone done this?

Mine just hits the mute button. But yeah I've done it. I like it like that. Now I can put my gauges in that slot

Wow, it must be a very touchy button to make the face pop off with such little pressure. I won't have to worry about that, my faceplate release button is flush with the rest of the face.

So what kind of bracketing system is holding the CD player?

guess it depends on the head unit

and for some reason my cup holder lid has alot of pressure behind it

i put the casing that comes with the aftermarket one in (had to bend it a bit to get it in then put head unti in and it straightened out. other than that there is no brackets

i used the holes on the side of radio that lined up w/ the holes in the metal piece under the plastic. just put a screw in it.

I've done this also, I was just wondering where I can get a radio block off plate, a single din?

I'm planning on doing this as well. I hate the angle of the cd player up by the climate controls, and I'd rather have my car look stock on the inside at a glance w/ the OEM radio in there, and i already have my 6.5" Image Dynamics components hidden in the stock locations, man that was a bitch fitting those in.

My friend had that, too.
He mounted it kind of deep so that when he leaves the car, he opens the cup holder, and the lid hides the stereo
