Okay, I bought a 93 integra rs 5spd with 147,0000 on it about 1 1/2 years ago, before I bought it I was notified that the car had set for close to a year. So I did the basic tune up on it, and started to take it to be checked out by a mechanic. Car started up great, and ran fine for about 10 minutes. Then everytime I would accelerate from a stop the car would just stall out and misfire, then take off like a bat out of hell like nothing was wrong. I went and added fresh gas and some gas treatment and it fixed it temporarily. Now it does the same thing and I don't really know what is causing it. Fuel filter has been changed and fuel tank drained numerous times. Here are the notes that I have down for when it goes to the mechanic. Car idles fine, after a few minutes it makes a click then the idle fluctuates very slightly. Once car is going, it runs fine no hesitation or bogging, it's only pulling out from a stop. Car makes a ticking noise, doesn't really sound like valves...but maybe an injector. The last piece to the puzzle is, the car hates hills. When you try and go up a hill it just keeps bogging....I mean to the point where you're in first gear barely moving. It will not idle on an incline either, if the car is pointed up or down hill at a stop, it will die. Get it back on level ground, idles fine. Sorry this is so long, but it has a lot of different variables to it. If anybody can lend any insight to this, I'd appreciate it.

mabye your pick up for your fuel is clogged. have your removed your fuel pump to see if it is dirty or cloged? also it could be your timing slightly off

 

I've constantly thought about completely taking the tank out and checking everything around the pump. Especially thinking the little screen may be clogged up. There is something going on in the tank because the gas gauge isn't working either.

 

When you did a tune up did you check your timing? Whats your fuel pressure like? You might want to check it before you start taking your tank apart Sounds like you got a timing issue either mechanical or ignition.

soulds like somebody could be onto something with the fuel screen on the fuel pump, and the fact that your gas gauge doesn't work. maybe something wrong with pump? find out that, and also check the ignition timing. just off the top of my head, but i'm a little busy right now. maybe i'll check back here later.

 

yeah, after changing the filter and still having the problem that was the only thing as far as clogging that I could think of. I checked the timing and it was set fine. The thing that really makes me think it's more fuel than anything else is the fact that once the car gets rolling, there aren't hardly any problems. sorry guys, bringing it back up from page 3. I have a fuel pressure gauge on it's way so hopefully we'll see what's going on with the fuel pressure.

 

so u changed ur plugs and wires? and fuel filter?

 

sounds like ur timing is off, install a new timing belt or get yours checked, maybe off by a tooth or 2

 

Hooked up my new fuel pressure gauge today, 45 psi with fpr vacuum hose disconnected and 36 with it connected. So, I don't think fuel pressure is the problem. Maybe the injectors. It hadn't been started for a while, but when I did today wow there was some chattering from the valve's. I tested it on level ground, so I'm not sure if it will lose pressure on an inclline or not. So, I guess that now I'm looking at the injectors or the distributor for the misfiring and bogging problems. Checked timing and it was fine. If you guys have any more suggestions they'd be greatly appreciated.

Update: Well, while I was working on it, I saw a box of new ngk plugs that I bought to be put in. My dad said he was going to put them in but never got around to it. I pulled the old plugs out, they were black and wet with gas on them. So, it's got to be an ignition issue. Maybe the plugs themselves being old and worn out not sparking enough to burn all the gas. Or something in the distributor not working properly causing this I'm not sure. Here's what the plugs look like:

 

Fresh plugs never hurt.

Good idea to pull the plugs-- they usually give some clues! If it wasn't firing, and it was hot, you should hear some backfiring from the exhaust. But hopefully it's an ignition issue.

That spark gap looks kinda large... maybe I'm just used to my .028 gap on my boosted motor.

So, plugs, then wires, then distributor. Could be the coil, but I'd start working backwards from there.

Fixed mine. 2003 Honda CRV with 217,000 miles on it. Read all of the post on the subject and saw a lot of silly suggestions. Got no answers from Honda. This engine has variable valve timing which is controlled by several sensors. This is what they called the Vtech system. If the VTEC system is detecting an error it puts the vehicle into limp mode. Mine was somewhat temperature sensitive and intermittent. We 1st replaced the ELD, electronic load detector with no help. Replacing the VTEC oil control solenoid, Part #15830-PNC-003 $165.09 fixed the problem. This solenoid was supposed to measure between 14 and 30 ohms. Mine measured 8 ohms. There are several parts called VTEC solenoids. I had to supply the part number to my mechanic has he had ordered the wrong VTEC solenoid. After reading several post concerning this problem I have not read any fixes from anyone else. Don't understand that. Your problem may be different but at least here's something to look at.
